Terms of Use

Last updated October 14, 2026. KnoxAround (knoxaround.com) is operated by Pretty Cow Media LLC, an Ohio limited liability company ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

1. What KnoxAround is

KnoxAround is a directory of businesses in Knox County, Ohio, with reviews written by the people who use those businesses and responses written by the owners. We publish what our users write. We do not inspect businesses, verify every claim, or guarantee that any listing, review or response is accurate or complete. Use your own judgment before you hire or buy.

2. Who may use the site

Anyone may read the site. To create an account, post a review, respond to a review, or claim or add a listing, you must be at least 18 years old. One person, one account. You are responsible for everything done through your account, so keep your password to yourself and tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

3. Your content and what you allow us to do with it

You keep ownership of what you write and the photos you upload ("your content"). You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, display, reproduce, excerpt, and distribute your content on KnoxAround and in material that promotes KnoxAround, for as long as it is on the site and in backups afterwards. You confirm that your content is yours or that you have permission to post it, and that posting it does not break any law or any agreement you have with someone else.

4. Content rules

Do not post content that:

  • is false, or that you do not have first-hand reason to believe is true;
  • defames, harasses, threatens or abuses any person;
  • is obscene, vulgar or sexually explicit;
  • discriminates against anyone on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law;
  • contains another person's personal information: home address, personal phone number, personal email, license plate, financial details, health information, or a photo of a person who has not agreed to it;
  • contains a business's confidential information, trade secrets, or private financial details;
  • infringes a copyright, trademark or other right, including text or photos copied from elsewhere;
  • advertises, solicits, or links to unrelated sites;
  • contains code, links or files meant to harm a computer or steal information;
  • is unrelated to the business it is attached to.

5. Review rules

Reviews are what make KnoxAround useful, so these rules are strict.

  • First-hand only. Review a business only if you personally dealt with it. Do not review on behalf of a friend or relay something you heard.
  • No conflicts. Do not review your own business, your employer, a business owned by a family member, or a competitor of a business you own or work for.
  • Disclose connections. If you have any relationship with the business beyond being a customer, say so in the review.
  • No incentives. Do not write a review in exchange for money, a discount, a gift, or any other benefit, and do not offer anyone a benefit for a review.
  • One review per experience. You may update your review as your experience changes. Do not post several reviews of the same business or create extra accounts to do so.
  • About the business, not the person. Describe what happened. Do not attack staff personally, speculate about their private lives, or name private individuals who are not the business.
  • Your own words. Do not paste text or photos from other sites or other people.

The Review Guidelines restate these rules in plain language and explain what gets removed.

6. Rules for business owners

  • Claim only a business you own or are authorized to manage. We may ask for proof and may remove a claim we cannot verify.
  • Keep your listing accurate. Do not describe services you do not offer or licenses you do not hold.
  • Respond to reviews civilly. Do not reveal a reviewer's private information, make threats, or use legal threats or intimidation to get a review changed or removed.
  • Do not post, buy, or solicit reviews of your own business, and do not have employees or family post them without clear disclosure in the review. Do not pay, pressure, or reward anyone for a review or for removing one. Federal law (the FTC's Consumer Reviews and Testimonials rule, 16 CFR Part 465) prohibits these practices, and the penalties fall on the business.
  • If you dispute a review, use the report link. We will look at whether it breaks these terms. We do not remove reviews because a business disagrees with them.

7. Our moderation rights

KnoxAround is a privately owned website. We may remove or decline to publish any content, close any account, and refuse any listing, at our discretion and without notice. We may also edit listing details for accuracy, but we do not change the substance of a review or a response; if a review has a problem, we remove it or ask the author to change it.

We apply the same criteria to every review, regardless of whether it is positive or negative. Reviews are removed when they break these terms: for example, content that is clearly false or misleading, defamatory, harassing, abusive, obscene, discriminatory, or unrelated to the business; content that exposes someone's personal information or a business's confidential information; content we reasonably believe is fake or written by someone with an undisclosed connection to the business; and reviews from accounts that break the one-person, one-account rule. We do not hide reviews because of their star rating or because a business objects to them.

About free speech. The First Amendment restricts what governments may do about speech. It does not apply to a private website, and it does not give anyone a right to have their words published here. Courts have held that a website that hosts other people's speech does not become a government actor by doing so, and that the site itself has the right to decide what it publishes. What binds us instead is this agreement, consumer-protection law, and civil-rights law: we will moderate as these terms describe, we will not suppress reviews by sentiment, and we will not remove anyone because of a characteristic protected by law.

8. Reporting content

Every review and response has a report link. You can also email tppl78@gmail.com with the link to the content and the reason. We review reports in the order received and do not promise a particular outcome or timeframe.

9. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on KnoxAround infringes your copyright, email tppl78@gmail.com with: the work you own, the link to the content on our site, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner, and your physical or electronic signature. We remove content that a complete notice identifies and may restore it if the person who posted it sends a proper counter-notice. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.

10. Accounts, claims and removal

You may delete your account at any time from your dashboard or by emailing us. When you do, your personal details are removed as described in the Privacy Policy; reviews may remain in anonymized form so a business's history stays accurate. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may keep records needed to enforce them.

11. Our content

The KnoxAround name, logo, design, and the text we write ourselves belong to Pretty Cow Media LLC. Business names and marks belong to their owners. You may link to any public page on the site. You may not copy the directory, scrape it, or republish its reviews elsewhere without written permission.

12. No warranty

The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be available, error-free or secure, or that any listing, review or response is true.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Pretty Cow Media LLC and its members, managers and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or from anything a user or business posts on it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to one hundred dollars ($100). Some states do not allow some of these limits; in those states, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

14. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of content you posted or because you broke these terms, you agree to defend us against that claim and to pay the resulting costs, including reasonable attorney fees.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts with jurisdiction over Knox County, Ohio, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing anything, email us; most problems can be sorted out in a conversation.

16. Changes

We may change these terms. When we do, we update the date at the top and, for significant changes, announce it on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
